Wingers Guide[left and right midfielders]This is a featured page

Here you can learn what a midfielder does, what it takes to be a midfeilder and how they do it. Note there are two basic types of midfielders center and winger. I will divide this guide into two sections labeled as such. Note that when there is 4 mids then there are usually 2 centers, a right and a left. If there is five mids the 2 extra usually play the role more as a stopper which is outlined in another guide on positions.

Wingers[right and left midfielders]

What is a Winger?

A winger is the guys who usually play offense and defence and cross the ball.

Should i Become a Winger?

Wingers are the position that you need speed most for so you must be fast. Wingers do not require very much strenth as other positions so if you are a small, fast guy like me winger is a good position for you. Wingers need to have a very powerful kick because they will be the ones crossing it in. They also have to have an amasing arsonal of moves, expecially stop and go moves. They need to have a good knowlege of where the out-of bounds line is because many times you have to do moves around the line. Wingers can't only be good at stop and go moves because you may cut the ball in and have to directly take on a defender. The most important things however is speed and the ability to cross the ball. Wingers can be the least agresseve because they don't get fouled as much and usually the guy runs beside you if you beat him quick. Wingers also need to have visions for one twos with center mids or overlaps. Wingers need to have amasing endurance and decent dfencive skills because they have to constantly run back in forth with the other winger. To see if you have what it takes to be a winger answer these questions:

Do i have a good cross?

Do i have good speed?

Do i have good moves expecially stop and go?

Do i have good endurance?

Can i play defence?

Do i suceed in overlaps and one-twos?

Do i have a good feel of where the line is?

If you choose yes to most of these questions then winger might be right for you. If not check my other position guides.

What Wingers Do

Here is what wingers do from 6V6 and up:

6V6- Usually the wingers get passes wide and either take it into the goal or cross it usually on the ground. The wingers play defencive first usually. They often shoot on goal because the fields aren't very wide and since most goalies are not very experienced they can score from an angle.

8V8- Now the wingers are going to cross it a lot. That is usually the main part of an 8V8 game. Wingers can still score if they cut it in but they don't shoot as often. Often wingers switch sides often if they are advanced because most kids shift to the ball since they aren't used to how wide the field is yet.

11V11- The wingers now play very wide and do not score or shoot as often. They often hold back to midfield very wide to avoid the ball getting intercepted during a switch. They usually get played chip through balls at the corner flag.

What wingers do also varys on the coach so if you are confused ask him/her.
