Set Plays - The Complete Soccer Guide

Have you ever dreamed of bending the ball around a wall past the goalie and into the net. Now you can with the set plays guide. This guide will cover corners, free kicks, and pks.

Corners

Corners are a vital chance for a team to score in a match. One of the most important parts of a corner is the ball in.

When striking a corner put your hand up so your teammates knows where the ball is coming in-less of course you are trying to catch the defense of guard.

When striking a corner make sure you do not aim to close to the goalie.

Get your foot under the ball and lean back. Make sure you follow through.

You may want to play a cross on the ground. If you do make sure you hit the ball like a shot as hard as you can. However, make sure it stays on the ground.

If you are losing with seconds to go it may be a good idea to call the goalie up for an extra man on the corner.

Short Corners

Only do a short corner if the person is open or relatively open.

You and the person receiving the corner should know what you are doing before-hand for best results.

Sometimes try to take it in. Other times just cross it. The defense may panic and lose sight of their man for a few seconds when the short corner is played which could lead to easy goals.

Shot Corner Plays

Free Kicks

Free kicks are given to you when your team is fouled outside the opponents box. Please look at the shooting guide for a big part of free kicks. Here are some tips.

Kick it over the wall. Most of the time if the goalie is on the opposite side of the goal then the wall it is near impossible to score on him without kicking it over the wall. Of course if the goalie is on the side with the wall then blast it into the corner. To kick the ball over the wall make sure you lean back. It is pretty simple kicking the ball over the wall if you just don't get scared. At a closer distance it gets harder because you need to hit it at a perfect height to get it over the wall but below the crossbar.

Also remember that you don't have to shoot even when you are in shooting range. Passing or chipping the ball up for a header works well to.

On indirect free kicks sometimes you should just touch it to a teammate and let them strike it. Watch out for charging wall though.

Free Kick Tricks

Sometimes during a free kick the wall jumps. If you are feeling lucky then hit the ball at the wall on the ground and hope they jump over it.

On a free kick load the box with offense players. Then bring three players. One stands to the right, the left, and the middle. Next, have the on that would shoot at the goal fake like he's going to shoot then run into the box. Have the next one fake a pass to the center one then run past. Now the center one quickly plays the on that just ran past and runs in the box. Then the one who has the ball crosses. You will find that there will be unmarked men in the box if it works and you do it quickly.

PKs

PKs are penalty kicks in the box when someone on your team gets fouled in your opponents box or the game is ended with a penalty shootout. When the ball is placed you will notice that it is very close to the goal. You need to score on this opportunity. Pks are really very basic. All you really need to do especially at a younger age is to place a line drive near the corner of the net. If it is a hard driven shot then it will almost be impossible to save. You wold be surprised at how many people even pros kick it over the goal or miss it right or left. Many people get nervous with PKs. Its ok, PKs are probably the most scary thing you will ever do in soccer. The best thing to do is just practice and see how easy it is then in a game you won't feel as nervous. Of course everyone feels a little nervous though even pros. Before you strike the ball do whatever you think is best. Some prefer to look at a side and place it in another side. Some don't look at any side and just look straight at the middle. You need to figure out what works best for you. When you get older and the goalies can actually block pks then sometime you need to get a little tricky. You don't have to but some people prefer tricks. Here are some.

PK Tricks

While running to kick it delay and the opposite way that it looked like you where going.

If you are at a high level the goalie has no time to see where the ball is going because it goes so fast. So they guess where to dive. Sometimes kicking it right up the middle will give you an easy goal.

Only use tricks if you have practice them a lot and you are sure you can do them well.
