Center Midfielders Guide

Here you can learn what a midfielder does, what it takes to be a midfeilder and how they do it. Note there are two basic types of midfielders center and winger. I will divide this guide into two sections labeled as such. Note that when there is 4 mids then there are usually 2 centers, a right and a left. If there is five mids the 2 extra usually play the role more as a stopper which is outlined in another guide on positions.

Center Midfielders

What is a center Midfielder

A center midfielder is the playmaker who usually plays the ball wide to the wingers.

Should i become a Center Midfielder

Center midfielders have to have a great understanding of where they need to be when the ball is in all areas of the field. Maybe they do a one-two or overlap with a midfielder hold back on a cross so the ball is played to their feet. You must be a smart player and being a smart player is very hard to teach. It pretty much comes natural. You need to have perfect vision to tell which side to play or to play a foward through. They also need to be able to easily cut the ball back instantly to play a different side. They also get balls played back from fowards for shoots. or maybe a really good center midfield makes a shot for himself by dribbling. Center Midfielders don't need to be blazing fast or have sweet moves. Though you might if you are playing a high level. But the most important thing is getting the job done and that is passing it to the wing. You also need to pretty good endurance to get back on defense but not as much as a winger. You have to play good defense however, because if the other team can beat you in the middle then many options avaible for them. The most important thing a center mid needs is a sense of where to be and a superb passing and vision. If you want to be a foward answer these questions:

Do i have amazing vision?

Can i pass the ball with ease on the ground, driven, or chipped?

Do you have a good shot?

Do you have a good sense of where you need to be on the field?

Can you play good defense?

If you answered yes to most of these questions then maybe a center midfielder is for you. If not please look at my other position guides.

What Center Midfields do

Heres what fowards do from 6V6 to 11V11

6V6- Usually Center mids play as fowards in 6V6

8V8- Center mids usually play the ball through to fowards of wide to mids. They commonly score and get many shots.

11V11- Center mids usually play the ball wide. Since there is a lot of space they do not have to take people on as much.

What center Mids do also vary on the coach.
